Ulica Długa is the spine of Gdańsk's Main Town — the Royal Way that runs from the Golden Gate down to the Long Market, a processional boulevard of gilded façades that Polish kings once paraded through. Step off it and the city quiets into side lanes like Mariacka, the "amber street" of stone terraces and jewellers' galleries, before the cobbles meet the Motława waterfront. To stay on Długa is to wake in the middle of the postcard: dense with landmarks, yet endlessly walkable — a five-minute stroll that crosses six centuries.
