North-west of the centre, where the city meets the Baltic, Brzeźno is Gdańsk's seaside — a long sweep of sandy beach backed by a coastal promenade and shorefront parkland. Its landmark is the wooden pier reaching out into the Gulf of Gdańsk, where walkers come for the sea air and the wide northern light; from there the shore path runs for miles toward Jelitkowo and on to Sopot. It is the city's other rhythm — slower, breezier — with the historic Old Town a tram ride inland.
